How much do I eat...?
I am so psyched for all of you - you are on the way to losing weight and you feel great!
Remember that today is FRIDAY and that you can choose how much you can eat. You NEED to choose how much. I love peanut butter, but I MUST measure it. There was actually a week there in September that I didn't lose any weight. I went over my diet journal and realized that I was adding a tablespoon of peanut butter to EVERY shake (3 a day) in addition to having a sandwich a day of 1-2 MORE tablespoons. THAT IS A LOT OF FAT!! I was crazy! Now, I measure everything; mayo, dressing, proteins (I can "eye" it most of the time), olive oil, etc.
Happy Friday and I KNOW that I will be weighing in very favorably on Sunday! I hope to hear from you!
Peace,
Dave

You discovered that peanut butter has all those hidden trans-fats and calories! Yes. The choco-peanut butter protien shakes are yummy, and they will help with the muscle, but they won't promote weight-loss. We discovered this the hard way a few months ago. You know, there are several "natural" nut butters that contain no sugars or trans-fats. They don't taste nearly as yummy - but you get used to it, and after a while, you prefer it. I'm currently enjoying the new "Smart Balance" Peanut Butter - they even mix in some Flax Seed oil for your Omega 3 Oils. Very good stuff, (athough a bit bitter) and you don't have to refrigerate it.

Dave,
Regarding the video on this post. I agree, if we're only looking at the issue of weight gain the man in the video is correct - if total calories in exceeds total calories out - the result is weight gain. But, as I try to point out on my podcast, the food choices one makes matters for more than weight gain. Fruits, vegetables, nuts, beans, whole grains, occasional modest amounts of lean meat - this is a diet filled with plant-based nutrients that in-and-of themselves will promote good health and reduce the risk of chronic diseases. It's not only about weight loss, it's about achieving optimal health. I have reviewed studies on my podcast that show differences in two weight loss diets that both achieved the SAME AMOUNT of weight loss, but the diet based on a high consumption of fruits and vegetables not only allowed for weight loss, but lowered blood pressure more.
So, I agree with the basic math presented in the video - but the type of food choices one makes does make a huge difference in health.
Finally, if we are in fact such an educated society and everybody knows that we should eat lots of fruits and vegetables why do so few of us do it? Less than 25% of the American population eats the minimum 5 fruits and vegetables per day. A similarly small percentage of Americans gets at least 30 minutes of regular exercise per day.
Good health and weight control are not complicated - but they do require knowledge and effort.

I agree with you 100%. The point that I got out of this was to MEASURE and be careful with everything.
Everything is bad in excess...even nuts and peanut butter. Measuring is the key.
Gotta go workout! (really!)
