Buffet or Bust?!

Last night, my wife and I ventured out to the New Gulfstream casino in Hallandale Beach. A new place that had of all things, a buffet for dinner. Now, years ago, I used to go crazy with buffets. A lot of us do. We somehow want to eat everything in sight sine it is "all you can eat". We somehow think that we're getting a great deal if we can eat 3 or 4 meals for only $16.99. What a deal!!

Last night proved to be very successful. I was a little skeptical about this whole thing and really didn't want to go in. BUT, she insisted and I didn't put up a fight.

There they were...aisles of meat, prime ribe, chicken, salads with fatty dressings, and of course miles of desserts. I started to sweat, my heart raced and I got nervous. "Oh My Gosh"...I thought.

Everything looks so good. There were elderly people eating plates of creampuffs and pies, overweight people eating plates of mile high meat and potatoes. There were obese people eating everything they could get their hands on. I felt sympathetic toward them. Did they know what they were doing? Trans fats, saturated fats, sugars, and horrible preservatives.

I proceeded to pick up a plate....I carefully and methodically chose my salad without dressing, selected a grilled salmon and chicken dish (separate plates of course) and some sauteed veggies. It was tempting to go to the burger bar and fried chicken aisle, but I literally said OUTLOUD..."Control yourself and be good" a few times. It was so loud that people who saw me talking to myself just figured I was a drunken gambler; no harm.

What did I have for dessert? I actually got up to look at them, but was really turned off by their appearance and how processed they looked. Amazing, a year ago, I would have eaten 5000 calories at the same buffet. I was a good boy and am proud.

Peace

You should be proud of yourself. Wouldn't it be great if you got to be like those ex-smokers who can't stand the smell of a cigarette? Wouldn't it be nice if the smell of sugar made you squeemish?

On second thought, that might not be great for the long run, but for the short run, I think it would be!

Congratulations on winning the battle over the buffet!

Thanks! I don't know if I'll ever kick the sugar thing though...I wish I could and never look back. Time will tell.
